How to Talk to Your Doctor About a Problem
Often your doctor can help you if you are having trouble getting a health care service you need.
When you talk to your doctor, explain the problem and ask:
- What do you recommend?
- Can you help me?
- What should I do next?
If you have a problem with your health plan
If your health plan denied a treatment or service, your doctor can help you explain why you need the care. This is important for a successful complaint with your plan.
If you have a problem with your doctor or doctor's office staff
Many problems can be helped by talking to your doctor. Your doctor may not be aware that you are unhappy with your care. And your doctor may be able to take steps to fix the problem.
If this does not help, contact your health plan's Member/Customer Service phone number. You can:
- File a complaint about your doctor or doctor's office staff.
- Ask to see another doctor to get a second opinion about a diagnosis or treatment.
- Ask to change doctors.
