About Health Care Reform in California
In response to rising health care costs, opportunities for improving health care quality, and the increasing number of uninsured individuals, a number of health care reform strategies have been proposed in California and across the nation.
These reform proposals focus on complex health care issues, including:
- increasing eligibility for the uninsured to obtain health insurance coverage,
- what health care services should be covered,
- who is responsible to obtain, pay for and keep health care coverage,
- what responsibility individuals have for their health and health care,
- what responsibility employers have for the health care of their employees,
- how to finance health care,
- and whether health insurance companies (private industry) or the government should administer health care services.
